Adaptations at home.
Adaptations are often considered to make a home more accessible and accommodating. OT+ therapists have considerable experience is appreciating how the home can be adapted to open up the environment for individuals with varying levels of function and mobility.
OT+ Accessible showering or bathing facilities.
-Hygiene facilities vary, with some requiring more dynamic physical abilities to access than others. Most individuals have a preference when it comes to meeting their personal care needs. Some prefer a bath and some prefer a shower. Our therapists have extensive bathing adaptation experience and are able to recommend suitable adaptations, and provide specialist advice on how best to promote your long-term hygiene needs.
OT+ Stairs.
- Stairs can be problematic to individuals with mobility needs or for those negotiating the home in a wheelchair. Being unable to use the stairs safely, or at all, can have a deep impact on an individual’s quality of life. There are a few options when an individual has stair mobility needs, so getting it right is key. Our therapists are experts in stair adaptations and can support with suitable recommendations.
OT+ Access.
- Access within the home allows individuals to access all their essential facilities and personal spaces. Barriers to internal access can include tight turns, hallways and narrow doorways, and external access barriers can include various surface types and gradients preventing safe access to the garden or to the public path. Our therapists are experts at understanding access complexities and recommending alternative adaptation solutions.
OT+ Kitchens.
- Kitchens can mean a lot to individuals with a passion for cooking, or being independent within their daily life. So many tasks are performed in the kitchen from preparing food, to cooking and eating, through to laundry and washing up tasks. The kitchen is home to multiple appliances meaning the environment can feel out of reach and inaccessible to those with varying mobility needs. Our therapists are experienced and creative when it comes to adapting a kitchen and utilising space for safe occupational performance.
OT+ Extensions.
- We all want more space to perform meaningful tasks. An extension can sometimes be desirable, as much as it can be essential. Either way, an extension can be costly, so using your space and your budget are key to making a sound investment. Our therapists have prior experience of collaborating with customers and surveyors, in order to maximise space, facilities, and overall costings.
OT+ Other options.
- Sometimes a property is unadaptable due to varying reasons, including costs, permissions, and feasibility. Just because a property cannot be adapted does not necessarily mean unwelcome news. Our knowledgeable therapists can generally always provide an alternative recommendation for consideration, with occupation, participation, and safety always being a priority.
